John Charles Hutchinson's CV

1957 – 1961    Apprenticeship at Morris Commercial Cars Ltd, Birmingham,
                         Covering Automobile and mechanical engineering.
                         Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering plus
                         City & Guilds of the London Institute in Motor Vehicle                   
                         Technology.

1961 – 1963     Joined BMC Service Ltd Export in Cowley, Oxford to train as a
                         Specialist Service Engineer covering all Austin, Morris & MG    
                         vehicles.

1964 – 1971     Extensive travel overseas visiting overseas distributors and
                         Governments to deal with service queries and to train service
                          mechanics.

1972 – 1973     UK Supervisor for overseas assembly plants, dealing with the
                          Service aspects of BMC overseas assembly plants.
                         
1974 – 1978      Area Sales Executive Unipart. (Unipart was then the Parts
                          Division for the whole of  British Leyland products).

1979 – 1982       Regional Sales Manager, Eastern Hemisphere. Responsible for
                           Parts sales and Business development for Land Rover, Rover,
                           Triumph, Jaguar, Austin/Morris and Unipart. This included
                           Sales and contracts to Governments and ministries of defence.
                           Three Area Executives reporting.

1982 – 1984       Regional Parts Sales Manager for Jaguar Cars, covering far
                           East and Middle East. This involved visiting all Distributors
                           to deal with their parts facilities, pricing and dealer network,
                           also dealing with any problems they had with our parts supply
                           and availability. Asked to write Jaguar Parts Minimum
                           Standards.

1984 – 1991       Export Parts Manager for Jaguar Cars. Responsible to Service
                           and parts Director for all countries outside Europe and North
                           America. In conjunction with the Jaguar service Manager and
                           sales manager, responsible for completely setting up new 
                           joint venture importers such as Jaguar Japan, Jaguar Australia,     
                           Jaguar New Zealand etc, formulating a complete business plan
                           appointment of dealer network, establishment of pricing policy      
                           and adequate facilities, training programmes and market
                           studies etc.

                           Responsible for creating the Jaguar Export Parts Minimum
                           Standards  Manual for overseas distributors and dealers in                      
                           conjunction with the Service and Sales Managers.

                           Required to provide first hand detailed overseas market     
                           Information at Senior Directors’ meetings at Jaguar HQ.       
                          
1991              After 27 years of overseas travel, and 33 years service, I
                      decided to retire from Jaguar, in order to spend more time with     
                      my family.  My son was then 9.

MG competitions Dept etc.

Brief description of some of the technical courses attended, and details of the
BMC Advanced Driving School at Abingdon.

Early years as Export Service Engineer, mentioning visits to unusual countries and
Interesting experiences.

Having to arrange worldwide export parts conferences in UK and abroad.

Experiences of working with Jaguar and of making overseas visits with the Jaguar
Service manager and Sales manager, also on some occasions with the Sales Director.

Some odd incidents which occurred during these visits, and some of the successes and
Achievements.

Training my successor, handing over, and saying goodbye to all my friends.
