Skittles Night - Nov 2009 |
|||||||
There was some debate before the competition started on the number of Skittles Nights we have held before, but the majority opinion was that this was the 3rd, the one planned for the February meeting being cancelled by bad weather. Most important on the agenda was the logistics of organising the fish and chip supper. With appetites stimulated and orders placed, the competition started.with the rumble of the ball down the alley and the clatter of tumbling wood. Well, that's the theory. It never ceases to amaze me how accurate you have to be, to bowl the ball and thread it between 9 skittles and not hit any of them. Mick Resteghini seemed particularly good at this aspect of the game. Playing in pairs the aim of the evening was to score as many points as possible. By coincidence and split second timing, at the end of the first round supper arrived. A welcome break from the cut and thrust of competition. Our thanks to Mike Byng and Phil Parkinson for organising and fetching, an excellent meal. We had time for just one more round after supper made all he more difficult by playing on a full stomach. The job of working out who had won fell to our scorer of the night, Sue Parkinson. Thanks Sue for a super job. Prizes were awarded for the highest score by a lady, highest score by a man and the highest team score. Congratulations to Karen Phillips, Don Bray and Brian Tinworth. No skittles evening would be complete without thanking the pin setters, who risked life and limb to keep the evening fun flowing.. Thanks to Tony Eades, Mick Resteghini,and Alan Matthews.
