The 2009 Jaguar flying Day was another great success. The weather was probably the best of all the previous flying days we have had and certainly much better than last year. From 10:30 a.m onwards the marquee was already filled with Jaguars and the line of cars outside was steadily growing. The day was not all about flying but a chance to relax and enjoy ourselves. Those that did fly were rewarded with superb clear views of the Hampshire & Berkshire countryside from the Isle of Wight to Didcot and beyond. |

This years event was made all the more enjoyable by other events also being held on the airfield. Help for Heroes Day attracted a large crowd with displays of classic cars, historic military vehicles and the Solent Eagles Children's Motorcycle Display Team. Proceeds of the day going directly to the charity to help servicemen and women, a sum of £3839.01p was raised on the day. You can find more information and photographs here

| From our perspective the organization of the day was superb. This is not the easiest of events to organize, each year the event runs like clockwork and 5 years on we are still having a memorable day out. Our thanks to John Greenaway and the pilots of the flying club for great flights. Many of the trips were tailored to the needs and interests of the passenger to make sure we got the most out of it. Thanks to Mike Byng for efficiently running the "arrival and departure lounge". A special Thanks to our BBQ Chefs, Chris Byng, Tony Eades, and Mike Gibbs and to the "Ground Hostesses " Sue Eades and Sue Parkinson for a super lunch. Last but not least, thanks to Phil Parkinson for "overseeing" ticket sales on the day. | ||||

The Sky Arrow |
Beside the added attraction of the Bouncy Castle (Was anyone brave enough to try it?) many of us spent the day happily talking about our beloved Jaguars to prospective and past owners of Jaguars and a few petrol heads who just love any kind of car. Talking of how I built the "Black Cat" was how I met Brian Barber. My reward a flight in his Sky Arrow, on a bright sunny afternoon, with a slight wind and a little turbulence to remind you, you were flying and fantastic views over the countryside. Approaching Popham Airfield I could hear the ATC talking to a helicopter pilot. Leaving out the call signs (to protect the innocent) the exchanges were like this. Helicopter pilot: "Where do you want me to Park?" ATC: "At the end of the row next to the Piper?" Helicopter pilot: "What's a Piper?" ATC: "Big white thing looks like an aeroplane" Job done! |
