Skittles in February

Christmas and the New Year are past, the January Lunch has come and gone. What an earth does one do when it comes to February? At a loss to brighten up a winter's evening was why someone invented the game of skittles. Combine this with a excellent fish and chip supper you have the recipe for a fine evenings entertainment.

Skittles in February 2009 did not happen because of bad weather. This year the weather relented a little and we turned up at Portal's on February 1st ready to do battle.

Largely ignoring the many and different rules of the game (much of them region or district dependent) we settle for playing in pairs and scoring the number of skittles felled in 3 attempts. Combining the scores for each couple to arrive at the winning couple. Having said that it is still a game of tactics and great skill. I'm always amaized about how accurate you have to be to set up 9 skittles, like soldiers on parade, bowl a ball and not manage to hit any of them - fantastic skill. - I don't know how you do it Mick?

Our thanks to Mike Byng for a excellent supper, for all the running around, to order it and fetch it from the "chippy", for the Tesco trolley dash to provide us with a range of desserts and obtaining the prizes. We really do appreciate the ammount of effort he puts in on our behalf.. Our thanks to Sue Parkinson for keeping the scores and to all those who set up the pins and retrieved the balls between rounds. It must have been a good evening for the time absolutely flew by.
