JDC Area 1 AGM / Wine Tasting, Dec 7th 2009.

The general consensus of opinion is AGM's are best avoided if possible. Which is, if I may say so, disingenuous to our committee and in particular Mike Byng and Sue Parkinson who work so hard on our behalf. I'm more than happy to day that is not the case in JDC Area 1, the AGM on the 7th December was well supported. This was despite a last minute change of venue when Mike discovered that Portal's S&SC was double booked. We must first thank Mike and Margaret for hosting the meeting at Heathfield.

The formal business of the meeting; The minutes of the last AGM were passed as read. The Chairman reported on a very diverse and successful year with the successful tour of Ireland and the various runs organised by Phil Parkinson, Don Bray and others.

The fantastic Chairman's Barbecue and another highly successful Flying Day organised by John Greenaway were also highlights of the year. Modesty forbids me mentioning the contribution made by the web site (Oh well I've done it anyway!) the comments and approval were greatly appreciated.

Sue Parkinson presented the Secretary's report. Events we run are largely self supporting and though the report showed a very slight fall in funds, this was inconsequential. We are a non profit organisation, operating to cover our expenses for the benefit of members. The statement of account was passed unopposed

The re-election of Chairman, Secretary and Committee members was passed unopposed. The remainder of the meeting was spent organising the 2010 programme. Details can be found on the Events page.

The meeting concluded, as last year, with a "Blind Wine Tasting" Stafford Trendall's enthusiasm and authoritative presentation was both fascinating and entertaining. The audience were asked to decide between different wines as to origin, "old or new world" and the type of grape. Peeking at the labels or interrogation of the wine server were fround upon. The majority of us could well distinguish our personal preferences, likes and dislikes, but even the wine aficionados had some surprising results. Coaxed by Stafford they eventually arrived at the correct result. Audience participation was lively (or maybe it was the wine) rounding off a successful and entertaining evening. Or thanks and appreciation to Stafford and once more to Mike and Margaret for putting up with us.
